It's been 3 weeks

I still mean to blog more often, but the added excitement of blogging now that the blogging contest is over is not as big. Still, there's a few things that I can give updates on.

My last blog was centered on my bowling dominance over the rest of the SAC staff, that was a career day. Last week, we went bowling again since two of our GA's were having their last day in the office. After the first game, I was in the lead and it looked like the pin would be staying in my office. A funny thing happened during the second game, my bowling skills disappeared. It was ugly and I finished a ways down the list of total scores. It was fun to watch Adam only beat Abbie by 1 pin, but sad that I had to pass the pin on to a new home. Rest assured Adam, that pin will be mine again.

My tomato plants are still doing ok, just in the last few days have any begun to turn red. The sad part is that two of them will be ready to be picked over the next few days but I will not be in town to enjoy them until Sunday.

Why Sunday? Glad you asked. Tomorrow morning, I'm leaving for a Concert Management workshop sponsored by NACA in Milwaukee, WI. It's a legit workshop by a legit professional association and directly related to my job, so let's give a round of applause for professional development.

There's been some bad news and good news about the workshop. The bad news is that all day on Saturday, we were supposed to get hands on experience working backstage with the different shows going on at Summerfest and that fell through. I was really looking forward to working at a festival that big with acts that are nationally known, I was bummed when I learned that it wouldn't be a part of the experience.

The good news is that since we can't get this hands on experience and have the entire day blocked off on the schedule, all of the workshop attendees will get an all day pass to Summerfest to enjoy whatever shows we want. I've already checked out the schedule for the day and I think that I'll check out KISS at 7:30pm and then work my way over to the Sara Evans show at 10pm.

I'll take a camera and do my best to post pictures when I return. I'm also looking forward to temps in the 70-80 range and hopefully lower humidity.

It's not Wii Bowling.

Today our office held another version of our Staff Bowling Challenge, one of the benefits of working in a building with a bowling alley. I was told early in my tenure here to keep bowling socks in my desk drawer because you never know when people will want to go bowling. It was great advice and there are always clean socks in the desk drawer.

Today's challenge was talked about last week but wasn't firmly planned until yesterday when we decided it would replace staff meeting. The prize for the best bowler on staff (highest total score of two games) is that you get to keep the coveted "Traveling Pin" in your office until the next challenge. You write your name, date, and winning scores on it. Kelly won it the first time back in the fall and I won it from her back in February.

You can see where I've kept it for 4 months.

Whenever the subject of bowling comes up, there is trash talking involved as to who is going to win in next time. I have to admit that being in my office for 4 months is a long time, but with everyone's work/conference/vacation schedule it's really hard to find a good time to bowl. We made an extra special effort to bowl today since two of our recently graduated GA's only have a week left in the office. We weren't going to let them take the pin if they won, it would stay at their old desks until the next bowling challenge.

The winner of the Staff Bowling Challenge today and the person to hold the pin for the forseeable future is . . .

Me again!

Joe, my boss, had me beat the first game with his 152, others were close but I was a solid second. When he started the second game with a gutter ball, I knew that was a break I had to take advantage of. We were close until really late, I put the game out of reach with the "porn" frame. All of you are thinking, "porn frame?" Yep, I closed the game out with a 10th frame of X-X-X, otherwise known as 3 strikes in a row.. That was the first time that I've ever done that to finish a game. The trash talk and "Don't choke" comments didn't faze me, but make no mistake, I heard them all. There was no way Joe was coming from behind to beat me.

Bowling Challenge days are way too much fun in the office. Bring on the Division of Student Affairs Bowling tournament on June 23rd, the Student Activities Center staff will be ready.

Still posting

I've decided that I still want to post blog entries now that the Blog a Day in May contest is over. I'm not too sure what I'll blog about, maybe the different places that I'm going to this summer (after I get back) or just funny things that I witness during the day.

At one point this summer, I will do a version of one of my favorite blog posts that I read during the challenge. I give props to Julia for her "Puppy love in Target" post, very creative and well written. My version may not be as well written, but the same concept will apply.

Updates from May posts:

* From "Whatever happened to . . ." - My Golf Digests have started coming again, it's a miracle.

* From "Farmer Bill" - The second tomato plant has started growing tomatoes, very exciting news.

* From "What my time in Tally has taught me" - Regina beat me in Scrabble the night of that post. Seriously, who puts "AQUA" on a triple word score? Tripling the word with a 10-point Q was the end of my reign.

* From "As seen on TV" - I failed to mention that the travel book light came with the Snuggie. It really looks as cheesy in person as it does on TV (the book light, not the Snuggie).
